Chicago media artist creates "generative" portraiture. (a display of video footage and software that continuously re-edits it.) I really find his work unique because he incorporates video into a still image in such a messy, yet satisfying way. I enjoy the weirdness of his portraits. His series merge is my favorite.
Benoit Paille
genre: photography
He's a bit odd. He did a series called strangers. He does an excellent job at making this photographs look crisp even though they were shot out of the blue, no scheduled photoshoot. Basically, he travels all around the world and meets strangers for a quick second and takes pictures. In this particular series, he lets them use a remote shutter release. Using that, they are controlling how they look when the photograph is taken. I really enjoy the quality and simplicity of his work.

Rineke Dijkstra
genre: video/ photography
Dijkstra is from the Netherlands and currently lives in Amsterdam. This Dutch photographer tends to focus her work to "people at certain crossroads" such as teens, new mothers, young soldiers.. etc. One thing that I really like about her work is the way she isolates the subject with plain, bare background. The other thing that I like about her work is that I'm able to see the subjects emotion and self expression.

Will Robson- Scott
genre: photography
Scott is native to England but he's known for his presence in NYC. He spends most of his time shooting skaters, music artists, graffiti writers. He is by far one my favorite photographers I've came across while researching. I find it pretty cool that he is able to capture well known artists in such authentic and unbothered state.
Phil Jackson
genre: photography
Based in Brooklyn, NY, he is known for capturing moving subjects. I enjoy the crispness of the shots and how clean he can take them, even with all the movement . He's not the typical blurry shot photographer.

Elizabeth Heyert
genre: photography
New York- based photographer that has done an experimental series (The narcissists, The sleepers, The Travelers, The Bound, The Outsider) I love that she captures in plain backdrops. It makes it boring, but it works. I find her series to be a bit playful which I enjoy as well. Very traditional shots of portrait but different at the same time because her subjects seem to not be conscious of her taking the photograph.
